As mentioned earlier, eating and directly lying down can cause heartburn. This can be prevented by eating 2 to 4 hours before you lie down or go to bed. Curbing the midnight snacks will also help. Eating smaller portions and avoiding certain foods helps as well. Restricting the amount of fatty foods consumed can prevent it too. Consuming fewer acidic foods, such as oranges and tomatoes and sodas can prevent heartburn too.

Baking soda has also been said to relieve stomach acid problems because it has the chemical property of being a base. Bases and acids neutralize when combined.
